Payroll Services
Paying the caregivers you hire through Self-Determination means onboarding paperwork, wage notices, tax withholding, workers’ compensation and year-end forms — all on a schedule that never slips. Sentinel Four runs payroll for 1,200+ caregivers employed by families in the Self-Determination Program (SDP), so your caregivers are paid correctly and on time while you stay focused on the support they provide.
What We Do
When a family hires an caregiver, we handle all the financial and administrative details. That includes:
In the Co-Employer model, Sentinel Four shares responsibility for employment with the family. You, as the family or participant, recruit, hire, and supervise your caregivers. We take on the administrative duties, such as payroll, tax filings, and workers’ compensation coverage. This balance gives families maximum choice and control while protecting them from the risks of handling payroll and compliance on their own.
In the Sole Employer model, the client or their representative is the legal employer of record. Sentinel Four still serves as the payroll agent — processing timesheets, issuing paychecks, filing taxes, and maintaining employment records — and the family is still in full control of hiring, supervision, discipline, and termination. This model is often reserved for participants with higher medical needs who may need to hire licensed professionals such as nurses, where the family wants direct control and accountability as the sole employer.
At Sentinel Four, we currently operate under both models. We believe this approach offers families the best combination of flexibility and protection — you direct the support that works for your family, and we manage the complex financial and legal details that keep everything compliant and on track.
